Team Members

The first training session of the year - Monday 5th October - the team captains, Ben and Georgina, will run taster sessions for all those who think they might want to join, but want to give it ago first.
From this, some players will be picked and asked to try-out for the team. We have two teams of five players for men and one team of four for women. The captains will pick a squad of players, and from this pick their team on a weekly basis.

All teams compete in the BUCS league and each week after team selection, there will also be 2 reserve places allocated for people who can be called into the team in case of main team members being unavailable.

Team members are expected to offer full dedication to the club with regards training, so if you are considering going for a place in the team, you must ensure that you are going to be available for the majority of training sessions. During the last academic year, the club had more of a ‘collection of players’ competing in the leagues rather than an actual team, so a much greater degree of team-spirit is the intention this year.

Obviously it isn’t fair if the best players automatically get into the team even if they only turn up to training once every few weeks, whereas some players who are not of the same standard are turning up more regularly and showing more commitment yet not seeing any of the rewards. For this reason, various factors will be taken into consideration for the team, and no one player’s place in the team is totally secure if they are picked after Fresher’s Week. Also the social players in the club will train and play a lot with the team, so progress will be seen, and if you are not picked in the first few weeks, we like to say, the door is never shut!
