Well, for the first time in years, and maybe in history, Lancaster University will be holding an Open Championship! Everybody is welcome to come down and play, Wednesday 16th June 2010.
But don’t worry if your a novice or just haven’t picked up your racket in a while, it will be a handicap tournament, so the team players will be given a negative handicap, hopefully ensuring a fair competition!
More information will follow, but for now, entry will be a few pounds, its at 2pm on the aforementioned Wednesday, so we look forward to seeing everyone and anyone down at the courts! Prizes will be given to the winner, so good luck, and get practising. It’s gonna be big!
See you on court!

Next week, Tuesday 11th May, Lancaster University Squash Club will be holding it’s annual general meeting!
This will take place in Furness Lecture Theatre 1 at 7:30pm until around 9pm. I really do hope that all our members can come, even if you no longer come down regularly to play. We want to hear from you, we want and need your help in making our club better next year, which is the purpose of this meeting, so if you no longer come down, why? what can we do differently? what did we not provide that you expected from the club?
We will hopefully use the whiteboards in there to write down all your ideas, put people in charge of them, discuss them and try to improve on them.
We are asking you to help us make our club better! So please all of you that can, come down!
Thats it for now,
Hope to see many of you there on tuesday,
Dom,
President

This is just a post to say a massive congratulations to our Ladies team, who maintained their 100% record this season by winning their cup final in Newcastle on wednesday!
It was close, 2 matches all, 8 games all, so it came down to points, which they won 144 - 135! Close win, but a win nonetheless!
Well done girls! We’re proud of you!

Yep you guessed it!! Its time for the ANNUAL PIZZA SOCIAL!!!!!!!!
For those of you who have never heard of or been to this prestidious event I’ll explain:
At the ANNUAL PIZZA SOCIAL!!!!!! the whole squash club gets together and orders a MASSIVE amount of pizza and then eats it ALL!!
And the best bit is…for you guys the pizza is FREE!!
(yes I did say free pizza!)
How could anyone refuse such an offer?
The details? Meet in Cartmel JCR at 7.30 on Friday 5th March. Simple as that!
Please join this group if you are coming so we can estimate the amount of pizza that will be required
Also we will probably make a night of it and go out after (possibly via the beer festival?) so dress your best! (but don’t forget to wear stretchy trousers/skirts so you can fit all that pizzzzza in!)

Hello ladies and gentlemen, students of old, and prospects new! We are now nearing a start of a new year in our university squash calender, and what a good one it promises to be! Another great league season and cup run, many many socials, and at the end, Roses ‘10 on home turf!
I understand that most people who do read this will be looking at the prospect of joining our brilliant little club so allow me to just say, you’d be very welcome, no matter how often you’ve played squash before. Read more on this website to see more about our club, and it’s great social life. But allow me to say that the squash club has a fantastic atmosphere and is full of serious and talented players, as well as those who’ve never really picked up a racket before and just want to learn and play more of this wonderful sport! So no matter what your level, if your heading to Lancaster University this next year, you can join this great club for just £5 for the year, just find us at freshers fair, or come down to one of our training sessions and see us there!
So until we start again, happy playing!

Hope everyone has had a good Christmas, and I’m sure you’re all keen to burn off that big turkey dinner with some games of squash!
Firstly, the AU are thinking of organising a night out to raise money and interest in Roses 2009. They would, however, like to get the opinion of as many AU members as possible on the matter. They are proposing a night out towards the end of term on which people can buy a Roses-themed t-shirt for £5, which also includes free entry to the Sugarhouse. However, the question is whether the night out should be opened up to all University students, or just members of the AU? Please use your vote in the poll HERE.
P.S. They are also looking for ideas on what type of slogan should be on the front of the t-shirts, so if anyone has any great suggestions, email us at lusquash@gmail.com!
On a related note, Roses 2009 has been confirmed for the weekend of 8th/9th/10th May. We are hoping to enter one women’s and two men’s teams to play York this year, so keep checking back for more news!
